Bridging Theory & Application

As Organismal Biology majors, students study the fundamental principles of physiology, ecology, and evolutionary biology through experiential learning and research. That includes opportunities to work with faculty on almost 100 acres of protected land near campus as well as 150 acres in Costa Rica’s lowland rainforests.

  • Articulate foundational scientific principles
  • Enjoy state-of-the-art labs and research facilities
  • Refine critical, analytical, and scientific thinking skills
  • Learn to critique original research articles
  • Understand quantitative approaches to data analysis

Organismal Biology FAQs

Learn More

As you plan your undergraduate journey, consider these answers to some questions commonly asked about Organismal Biology.

While a Biology major gives students a wide foundation in the fundamental concepts of life, an Organismal Biology major dives deeper into the study of many aspects of living organisms: their structures, functions, interactions, and evolution.

You can pursue a variety of careers, ranging from being an ecologist or conservation biologist to becoming a scientist involved in agricultural science, botany, and wildlife/zoology. Many graduates with this degree also move on to careers in biotechnology, ecotourism, and more.
