Our Physics programs let you explore the fundamental principles that govern our universe.
Our programs in Physics and Biophysics offer versatile majors that offer preparation for careers and further study in a wide variety of fields. As you build models, develop experimental skills, and master the tools of your major, you’ll gain valuable insights that you can bring wherever you go.
Our Physics programs offer insight into the rules of our universe on scales from the subatomic to the cosmic. In a Physics program, you’ll gain the skills and knowledge to model physical systems, test those models with experiments, and communicate your results to a wide audience.
In our Biophysics program, you’ll bring insights from physics to biology, building models that describe the behavior of biological systems from the smallest molecules to the largest populations.
This major provides a robust foundation in the theoretical and practical skills you’ll need to succeed in a Ph.D. program in physics or biophysics. The biological insights you’ll gain from this major also makes it a strong choice for those planning to go into health fields.
Our Physics major is designed to equip you with the analytical and experimental skills you need to describe and understand the physical systems that surround us.
The analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills you’ll learn in the Physics major provide a strong basis for graduate study in physics, and are broadly applicable in a range of fields. Along with further academic work, physics alumni from the Department of Natural Sciences have gone on to careers in diverse fields such as engineering, law, and medicine.
From summer internships to ongoing research labs, the Department of Natural Sciences offers a variety of opportunities to make meaningful contributions to your field through research.
